AUGUST It still is hot, however one can already feel that the days are becoming shorter. Nightfall starts earlier and the morning-light is less in a hurry.
The vine stopped its rush for growth and the whole foliage now works for the production of those substances needed for the maturation of the grapes. The grains become heavier and the grapes bend downwards and remain suspended until the vintage.
By mid-August, all the treatments have to be completed, the ground must be clean and the soil well lightened. Our forefathers said it already: "from that moment onwards the vine need seclusion and does not support the shadow of the wine-grower". Knowing and respecting that tradition, most winegrowers wind down and take a few days of vacation.
